I wish I had known I would start painting when I turned 60. What an unexpected, joyful journey it has become.

I still feel a little sheepish calling my drawings and paintings art, but I fell in love with the process of creating. Drawing with a pen felt frightening, brushing paint on to paper downright outlandish. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t, and yes, I destroy more pieces than I keep. But every now and then, one turns out just right. My art is about whatever captures my curiosity. Letting go of perfection, embracing funky lines and offbeat colors, and sometimes I stumble into something unexpectedly lovely.

My art is about starting something new when I thought I was too old, too busy, or too late. It’s about being brave enough to make a mess in public, especially in front the people I love the most.

So thank you for looking, purchasing or even just politely nodding. I hope you find something that you love too.

Turning 60 was momentous. Children out in the world, new home completed, and a job that I love. Suddenly, watercolor became the best surprise of my life.
